Description
Doubling shows on the upper area of Lincoln’s eye and along the lower edge of his nose. Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: A tiny die gouge (dot) shows below the second 2 in the date. A diagonal die flow line shows on the front of Lincoln’s bust below the first 2 in the date. A tiny die gouge (dot) shows in the lower right opening of the R in LIBERTY. Numerous tiny die gouges (dots) show below the RTY in LIBERTY and behind Lincoln’s lower bust. A tiny die gouge (dot) shows along the upper right edge of the opening in Lincoln’s ear. A small die gouge (dot) shows on the back of Lincoln’s upper lip. Vertical die flow lines show on the shoulder fold of Lincoln’s jacket. Stage B: The die gouge (dot) from Stage A below the second 2 in the date is still visible. The small die gouge (dot) on the back of Lincoln’s upper lip is still visible as are the die flow lines on the shoulder fold and below the first 2 in the date. A die gouge (dot) shows in the field below the letters OD in GOD. A die gouge (dot) shows on Lincoln’s neck below his ear. Reverse: Stage A: A pair of die gouges show near the rim above the UN in UNITED. A series of distinctive die gouges run through the ITE in UNITED. A die gouge (dot) shows centered below the LB initials. Light diagonal die scratches show to the left of the right ribbon curl. Stage B: The die gouges through the ITE in UNITED are weakly visible. The light diagonal die scratches left of the right ribbon curl from Stage A are still visible. A series of tiny die gouges show in the field below the letters UNI in UNITED. A die chip shows on the upper left arm of the M in AMERICA. A small die gouge (dot) shows on the upper right arm of the letter N in UNUM. Submitted By: Don K.
