2025 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

2025 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 2025 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a strong CW spread, seen on the ear, at the back of the head, on the Y of LIBERTY and on the chin. Obverse markers: a NW/SE crack on the forehead; a N/S crack in the upper hair that reaches the W in WE; thin cracks on the RTY of LIBERTY; a cluster of small gouges over the ER of LIBERTY; a small gouge on the vest NW of VDB; a gouge near the rim under the bust at 6:00; gouges on both sides of the first T in TRUST; and a gouge under the R in TRUST on its right side. Reverse cracks: several on the shield's upper left edge; a N/S crack on the shield's upper right corner; a thin crack on the shield's horizontal bar under the R of PLURIBUS; a N/S crack at the O of ONE, on its left edge, extending west to the scroll's edge; a NW/SE crack on the bottom left corner of ONE's N; thin E/W cracks along the bottom of CENT's C and E; a NE/SW crack on the bottom left corner of CENT's N; a circular crack along the right edges of the T in CENT and of the scroll; and two NW/SE cracks on the shield's lower left edge. Other reverse markers: a small chip on the shield's upper right edge near the upper tip; and gouges in the field to the left of ONE's O, under the N in UNITED, left of the last S in STATES, and right of the shield's upper right corner. James Cassin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
