2024 (P) Hon. Patsy Takemoto Mink Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse VDDO-003

Description

Listed in VarietyVista's catalog, this doubled die obverse for a 2024 American Women Quarter displays a medium spread in the north direction on the first 2 of the date and on the lower hair of Washington's portrait. The UVC and DMR numbers remain unassigned (listed as ???? and 00?), indicating this variety was documented while catalog numbering was still being finalized for the 2024 date. Stage A shows both the obverse and reverse in early die state, with Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed) and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The American Women Quarters program (2022-2025) honors pioneering American women with five new reverse designs each year, while the obverse retains a new depiction of Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser — a design originally submitted in 1931 but not selected until about ninety years later. Medium northward spread on the date and lower hair indicates the hub was offset upward during the second hubbing impression. Doubled dies on the American Women Quarter obverse are collected across all five reverse designs issued each year, since the obverse die is common to all.
