2024 (P) Hon. Patsy Takemoto Mink Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

2024-P PTM WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 2024-P Hon. Patsy Takemoto Mink quarter (American Women series), cataloged by the Wexler team. Doubling to the west shows mainly in the hair detail over the ear; in the hair detail to the ear's left, slight doubling may be visible on earlier die states. Obverse markers: numerous cracks on the eye, nose and lips; north-south scratches under the ear; a gouge NE of the bust's front tip; small gouges on both sides of the E of WE; and a gouge left of the T of LIBERTY at its base. The reverse is WDDR-001, with close doubling to the north on the Capitol Building's pediment and floor, on Mink's left thumb, on the lei to the right of her chin, and at the pen's bottom. Reverse markers: large die breaks and chips over EQUAL, on Mink's extended hand and below it; a curved crack in her hair; a pre-die break depression under the S of CENTS; feeder finger scrapes running NW/SE through her neck and to the right of her right hand; under MINK, two NW/SE scratches; a large gouge touching the U of EQUAL on its left side; a gouge inside the D of EDUCATION; a gouge left of the U of UNITED, close to the rim; a gouge over the A of STATES toward its left side; a gouge right of the Y of PATSY; a small gouge under the M of AMERICA toward its right side; and a gouge under the R of AMERICA. Bill Kerr submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler adds that the coin it examined also shows strong machine doubling to the north on the outer obverse lettering.
