Description

A doubled die obverse on the 2024 Philadelphia Hon. Patsy Takemoto Mink quarter from the American Women series, VDDO-002 is cataloged by VarietyVista and shows light spread to the northwest on the first 2 of the date and on the lower hair detail of the portrait. Patsy Takemoto Mink made history in 1965 as the first woman of color and first Asian American woman elected to the United States Congress, representing Hawaii. Her quarter reverse features a portrait highlighting her determined expression and characteristic hairstyle, and the obverse doubling on VDDO-002 affects elements that frame the design — the date at the bottom and the hair detail above. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the northwest spread direction produces a diagonal displacement on the numeral 2 and the hair strands, creating a secondary image shifted slightly up and to the left. Light-class doubling requires magnification to confirm, but the combination of two separate affected areas — date and portrait hair — provides dual diagnostics for reliable attribution.
