2023 VDDR VDDR-003
Error
Description
Third doubled die reverse documented on the 2023-P Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter, VDDR-003 reproduces the same light eastward spread on the upper central scale pole and lower left pan line seen on VDDR-002 and VDDR-004 — but from yet another independently manufactured working die. When three separate dies develop identical doubling on the same design features, it points to a characteristic of the hub or hubbing setup that predisposes dies to this specific misalignment. The hub is the master tool from which all working dies are impressed, and if its geometry or the press alignment creates a tendency toward a particular displacement, multiple dies will independently exhibit the same result. This pattern is documented in die variety literature as a "family" of related doubled dies — distinct varieties sharing a common mechanical origin. The Eleanor Roosevelt reverse design, honoring America's longest-serving First Lady and her humanitarian legacy, features the balanced composition of justice scales that provide fine reference lines where light doubling becomes observable. Each VDDR in this family was struck from its own die and is independently collectible.
