2023 (P) Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse VDDO-003

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista on the 2023 Philadelphia Mint Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter from the American Women Quarters series, VDDO-003 exhibits light spread west on the D of GOD, the last T of TRUST, the middle of the queue, and the hair curl above the ear. This westward directional spread across multiple design elements indicates a consistent hub displacement during die preparation. The variety progresses through three die stages: Stage A represents early die state, Stage B shows a die crack from the front of the bust to the rim at mid-die state with the reverse also at mid-die state, and Stage C represents late die state. Catalog codes UVC and DMR remain unassigned pending further documentation. The die crack developing in Stage B provides a progression marker, as its appearance signals the transition from early to mid-die state and helps collectors determine which stage their specimen represents. The Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter, issued as part of the 2022-2025 American Women Quarters program, carries Laura Gardin Fraser's Washington portrait on the obverse, which provides multiple areas where hub doubling can manifest across the fine detail of the hair and lettering.
