1883 Indian Head Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1883 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1883 Indian Head cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler calls the spread a probable Class IV + VIII to the north. It covers the bottom two-thirds of the wreath plus the ribbon and the arrows, and is strongest at the bottom. On the obverse, a crack runs WNW from the cheek through the nose into the field, and another runs SE from under BERTY to the lower two feathers. On the reverse, a crack follows the outer edge of the wreath from about 9:00 to 10:00. Kevin Flynn submitted the variety. Snow numbers it S6 and CONECA DDR-002; Cherrypickers has it as FS-01-1883-801. In Flynn's listing it is DDR-001, and in the F.IND.ERS Report FND-001.
