CU-25c-2023P-01(ER) Rim Cud
Error
Description
Documented on November 13, 2023 by Cuds on Coins, the CU-25c-2023P-01(ER) is a rim cud on the 2023 Philadelphia Mint Eleanor Roosevelt quarter from the American Women Quarters series issued from 2022 through 2025. A rim cud forms when a section of the die's raised rim fractures and separates, leaving a cavity that produces a raised featureless blob along the coin's edge. The CU-25c designation identifies this as a quarter dollar cud, with 2023P indicating date and mint, and 01(ER) marking the first cataloged cud for the Eleanor Roosevelt design. The Eleanor Roosevelt quarter honors the longest-serving First Lady and human rights advocate, featuring her portrait on the reverse alongside the United Nations building. As a recently produced coin from a modern commemorative series, this cud variety demonstrates that die rim fractures continue to occur despite advances in die manufacturing and quality control. The Eleanor Roosevelt issue's single-year production window constrains the total population of this variety.
