2022 (P) Dr. Sally Ride Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

2022-P SR WDDR-008 is a doubled die reverse on the 2022-P Dr. Sally Ride quarter (American Women series), cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies east of Ride's jacket collar, over her left shoulder. Both sides carry Wexler's master die doubling: WMDO-001 on the obverse and WMDR-001 on the reverse. Obverse markers: a long crack across the edge of the nose; a long chip on the mouth's back; light feeder finger scrapes in the area between the neck and ponytail; a gouge right of the nose's bridge; a gouge under the bust's front tip; and gouges on either side of the W in WE. Reverse markers: a crack through the hair heading N toward the A in STATES; a chip in the lower opening of the first E in E PLURIBUS UNUM; a chip between the U and S of PLURIBUS; several large gouges inside the first U of UNUM and to its left; a gouge over the last U in UNUM, on its right side; a large gouge between the S of PLURIBUS and the last A in AMERICA; a gouge between the Q of QUARTER and the dot; and a gouge over the E in the designer's initials EH. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes it closely resembles WDDR-003 and suggests comparing the doubling and markers of the two.
