Description
Strong extra thickness and split serifs can be found throughout the reverse lettering. Extremely similar to WDDR-002, but split serifs are noticeably stronger on STATES OF.Die Markers: Obverse: Large die gouge near the hair below the O in GOD. Die gouge right of the G in GOD. Die gouge inside the 0 in the date. Die gouges left and right of the last 2 in the date. Two die gouges below the left and right side of the B in LIBERTY. Die gouge on the nose. Reverse: Die crack across the top left side of the shield with a small die chip above the U in PLURIBUS. Large die gouge below the O in OF (higher than the gouge on the WDDR-002). Die gouge above the lower left serif of the second T in STATES. Die gouge above the lower right serif of the E in STATES. A series of diagonal die scratches run southeast from Lincoln’s lips and mouth. Diagonal die scratches run northwest from the back of Lincoln’s neck, northeast of the Y in LIBERTY. A series of diagonal die scratches show below and southwest of the mintmark. Reverse: A series of vertical die scratches show in the upper opening of the M in AMERICA. A die crack shows on the upper left shield edge above the PLU in PLURIBUS. A die gouge (dot) shows above and between the US in PLURIBUS. A die gouge (dot) shows to the right of the upper right ribbon curl.
