2022 (D) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

2022-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 2022-D Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong extra thickness and split serifs run through the reverse lettering. Wexler finds it extremely similar to WDDR-002; what sets it apart is that the split serifs on STATES OF are noticeably stronger. On the obverse, near GOD there is a large gouge close to the hair under the O, and another gouge right of the G. In the date, a gouge sits inside the 0, and the final 2 has a gouge on each side. Two more gouges lie under LIBERTY's B, one beneath each side, and there is a gouge on the nose. On the reverse, a crack crosses the left part of the shield's top, carrying a small chip over the U of PLURIBUS. Under the O of OF is a large gouge, positioned higher than the one on WDDR-002. In STATES, a gouge sits over the second T at its lower left serif, and another over the E at its lower right serif. A weak gouge lies to the right of UNITED's D. Frank Baumann III submitted the variety. Its Coppercoins number is 2022D-1DR-001, and VarietyVista lists it as VDDR-001 (Stage B only).
