2022 (D) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

2022-D WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 2022-D Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong extra thickness runs through the reverse lettering. Wexler finds it extremely similar to WDDR-001, except that the split serifs on STATES OF are noticeably weaker here. Obverse markers: a crack running along the base of LIBER and curving NE through the R; a N/S crack on LIBERTY's T and another on the forehead; an E/W crack through the hair at its front; a large gouge right of the W in WE and another in front of the nose; and many gouges spread over the whole obverse. On the reverse, a crack crosses the left part of the shield's top, and over the U of PLURIBUS, on its left side, there is a large pre-die break depression. Under the O of OF is a large gouge, positioned lower than the one on WDDR-001. Further gouges: a large one left of the shield's upper tip; one left of UNITED's U at its bottom; some below and to the right of UNITED's D; one left of the O in OF; and one touching the I of AMERICA at its bottom.
