2018 VDDR VDDR-005

Description

Displaying a medium spread east that produces an extra tip on feather number 7 from the bottom of the Block Island National Wildlife Refuge Quarter’s shorebird design, this 2018 doubled die reverse is cataloged by VarietyVista as VDDR-005. Die markers are documented across multiple stages: Stage A shows both reverse and obverse in early die state; Stage B features a die break between the topmost feathers at early-to-mid die state with the obverse also at early-to-mid die state; and Stage C is provisionally identified as late die state (unconfirmed). The die break between the topmost feathers in Stage B provides a readily identifiable secondary attribution point that helps confirm the die identity independent of the doubling pattern itself. The Block Island Quarter, the final issue in the 2018 America the Beautiful quarter series honoring Rhode Island’s national wildlife refuge, features a black-crowned night heron whose detailed feather rendering amplifies the visibility of even moderate hub doubling on individual feather elements.
