Description

Sharing the same die pair as its Position B counterpart but distinguished by edge lettering orientation, this Trail Dies-cataloged Philadelphia Mint Native American Dollar (Position A) shows trail lines from the bottom of the letters IN and WE, with lesser indications in TRUST, at an offset direction of 200 degrees. Found by Siddiq Shahid. Die markers at Stage B: obverse at MDS with two small die gouges on the right shoulder of Sacagawea; reverse at MDS with a die gouge under the O in OF. Position A and Position B designations refer to the orientation of the incused edge lettering relative to the obverse, a feature introduced in 2007 for Presidential and Sacagawea/Native American dollars. Glenna Goodacre's Sacagawea portrait was struck in manganese brass clad at 8.1 grams and 26.5 mm. Trail die errors result from partial die contact during production.

Die Markers

  • Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – two small die gouges are seen on the right shoulder of Sacagawea.
  • Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen under the O in OF.
