Description

Cataloged by Trail Dies, this Position A Philadelphia Mint Sacagawea Dollar shows heavy, short trail lines from the top left corners of BER in LIBERTY at 270 degrees offset. Trail die varieties arise from partial contact between die faces during press operation. Die markers at Stage A: obverse at EDS with a series of small die gouges to the right of Sacagawea's right shoulder; reverse at EDS with none noted. Stage B: obverse at MDS with a die gouge above the horizontal bar of L in LIBERTY and another between RT of LIBERTY. This die was found by Steven Bernatowicz, with Stage B found by Tim Dale. Struck in manganese brass clad at 8.1 grams and 26.5 mm, the 2009 Native American Dollar commemorates the agricultural contributions of Native peoples. The Position A designation indicates the die orientation relative to the edge lettering.
