Description
On 2009P(DC)-25DER-002T the trails come off the LUM of COLUMBIA and run at 140°, toward the southeast, or the lower right of the coin. Decoded, the number reads 2009 Philadelphia, District of Columbia design (DC), quarter (25), reverse design extension (DER), file 002, trails (T). TrailDies describes a late-die-state coin, stage C. Its obverse has a crack in Washington's nose that reaches a little way into the field; on the reverse a light crack leaves the top of the piano, and the same reverse die also carries the catalog number WDDR-015. Steven Bernatowics found it. Rotary polishing of the die is the usual explanation for such lines; some instead point to the die moving against the hub.
