2009 (P) District of Columbia Quarter - P(DC)-25DEO-006 Trail Die Obverse

Description

2009P(DC)-25DEO-006 has no closing letter after its file number, but the entry describes ordinary trails: lines from the bottoms of URTE in QUARTER, pointing west-southwest at 240°, down and to the left. The rest of the code identifies a 2009 Philadelphia quarter with the District of Columbia design, 25 for the denomination and DEO for an obverse design extension, file 006. The middle-die-state coin has no obverse markers, and its reverse is the die listed as WDDR-009, a cross-reference that helps pin it down. Steven Bernatowicz found it. As usually explained, the lines come from a polishing wheel run across the die, though some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
