Description

2009P(DC)-25DEO-001T is an obverse die that struck 2009 District of Columbia quarters at Philadelphia, with trails in two opposite directions from LIBERTY. TrailDies numbers it by date and mint, the (DC) design tag and 25-DEO for a quarter obverse; the closing 001T makes it the first trail file. The stronger set runs south-southeast at 150°; a weaker set runs the opposite way, north-northwest at 330°. TrailDies shows two die states: nothing is noted at the early stage, and by the later one a small gouge has appeared below the U of UNITED. William Glen of Florida found the die. Trails are usually attributed to rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
