2008 (P) New Mexico State Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

2008-P NM DDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 2008-P New Mexico state quarter, cataloged by VarietyVista. The light spread is on the lower part of the earlobe. VarietyVista also gives it as 2-O-VIII; its chart numbers are UVC-1730 and DMR-005. Stage A, an early die state (EDS), is unconfirmed. Stage B shows a die crack across the front of the bust and another on the forehead, plus two die depressions along the right side of the state outline; the bust crack and the depressions are each marked EMDS (early middle die state). Stage C adds a die crack through the designer's initials and a die depression between the I and N of IN, and the right side of the state outline now carries three depressions; the initials crack and the depressions are again marked EMDS. At Stage D a die break sits between the I and N of IN, marked MDS (middle die state), with another die break in the upper hair, and the reverse is MDS.
