Description
On 2008P(HI)-25DER-004T, trails come off the K in KE, from AINA and from UNUM, all pointing south-southeast at 150°. The number stands for a 2008 Philadelphia quarter with the Hawaii reverse (HI): 25 means quarter, DER means TrailDies' reverse design extension, and 004T is file 004 with trails. The coin TrailDies describes is early in the die's life. A scratch reaches from the crown of Washington's head to a point right of the final S of STATES on the obverse, and two scratches over the O of DOLLAR are given as the reverse marker. Steven Bernatowicz found it. Rotary polishing of the die is the cause most often given for trails; others point to the die working against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage "A", obverse is EDS – a die scratch is seen from the top of Washington's head to the right of the last S in STATES.
- Reverse is EDS – two die scratches are seen over the O of DOLLAR.
