2008 (P) Hawaii State Quarter - P(HI)-25DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light trails on 2008P(HI)-25DER-002T run in both directions along an east-west line, at 090° and 270°, from the word HAWAII, the date 1959 and the spear's tip. The code identifies a 2008 Philadelphia quarter of the Hawaii design, its 25 and DER showing a quarter reverse with a design extension, and 002T giving file and type. The middle-die-state coin is marked on the reverse by a trio of small die dots before King Kamehameha's face; the obverse shows nothing. Bill Taschwer found it. The usual explanation is a rotary polishing tool working over the die face; a smaller camp blames movement between the die and the hub.
