2008P(HI)-25DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse
Error
Description
Found by Bill Taschwer, the 2008P(HI)-25DEO-002T is a trail die obverse variety on the Philadelphia Mint Hawaii State Quarter. Trail die obverse varieties preserve remnants of a prior hub impression on the working die, creating faint secondary design traces. At Stage A, the obverse is at early die state with light diagonal die scratches visible around LIB of LIBERTY. The reverse is also at EDS, carrying a diagonal die scratch over the 2 of the date. The Hawaii State Quarter reverse features King Kamehameha I and the Hawaiian Islands, making this a distinctive host design for trail die attribution. The diagonal scratch patterns on both sides, around LIBERTY on the obverse and at the date on the reverse, provide accessible early-die-state diagnostics for this state quarter trail die variety.
