Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team on a Position A striking of the 2007-P George Washington Presidential Dollar, this WDDR-019 exhibits doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm on Don Everhart II's Statue of Liberty reverse. Position A indicates the incused edge lettering — date, mintmark, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST — reads upright when the obverse (George Washington's portrait) faces up. Presidential Dollar edge lettering was applied in a separate operation after striking, and the coin could enter the edge-lettering collar in either orientation, producing Position A and Position B variants. The reverse doubling is identical to the Position B counterpart: the same working die produced both, but edge lettering orientation creates two catalog entries because the complete coin differs. No significant die markers have been noted on either side. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in manganese brass clad composition, this regular strike belongs to the inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar program. The Statue of Liberty reverse served all Presidential Dollars from 2007 through 2016. Examine the second ray clockwise from the head where it intersects the right arm for the doubling, and check edge lettering orientation — upright from the obverse — to confirm Position A.
