Description

Struck as a Position A coin with edge lettering oriented in the standard relationship to the obverse, this 2007 George Washington Presidential Dollar WDDR-007 displays doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty on the common reverse shared by all Presidential Dollars. Position A indicates the edge inscription reads correctly when the obverse faces up, distinguishing it from Position B specimens struck from the same die pair. Obverse die markers include a die gouge north of the 1 in 1789, a die gouge above and between the 7 and 8 of 1789, and die gouges above both 7s in 1797, all clustered within the presidential dates. The reverse carries a die scratch running west-southwest to east-northeast to the right of the bottom of the second A in AMERICA. Attributed by the Wexler Team, this variety's concentration of obverse die markers within the inauguration and term dates makes the date numerals a productive zone for confirming this specific die pairing.
