2007 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light trails come from some of the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM on 2007D-1DER-002T, running at 330°, north-northwest. TrailDies notes that its stage A coin shows more trails from PLURIBUS than the stage B coin. The code reads 2007D (date, Denver), 1 (cent), DER (reverse design extension), 002 (file) and T (trails). At stage A the obverse is late middle die state with a moderate flow line inside the N of IN, and the reverse is early, with three small gouges below the right base of the Memorial. By stage B the flow line in the N has grown, and the reverse shows a small but clear scratch below and left of the O of ONE. Michael Pope found the die. Trails are typically attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

Die Markers

• Stage “A”, obverse is LMDS – a moderate flow line is seen inside the N of IN.
• Reverse is EDS – three small die gouges are seen below the Memorial building’s right base.
• Stage “B”, obverse is LDS – the flow line has increased in size in the N.
• Reverse is EMDS – a small, prominent die scratch is seen to the left and below the O of ONE.
