2007 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Light trails rise from the tops of the LIBER of LIBERTY on 2007D-1DEO-001T, offset at 000°, straight up toward the rim. The 2007D at the front is the Denver date; after it come 1 for a cent, DEO for an obverse design extension, file 001, and T for trails. TrailDies shows two stages. At stage B (middle die state) small gouges lie under the US of TRUST, with another inside the U, and the reverse has no markers. At stage C the obverse, now late die state, keeps those gouges, and the reverse adds a chip high in bay 1 with a crack from column 2 and a chip in the cornice above column 2. Jeremy Gardner found the die. Trails are commonly attributed to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some suggest the die moved against the hub.

Die Markers

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouges under the US of TRUST. Small die gouge is seen on the inside of the U of TRUST.
• Reverse is MDS – none noted.
• Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die gouges still present. Reverse is MDS – die chip in the upper part of bay 1 with a die crack from column 2. Die chip in the cornice over column 2.
