Description
2005P(CA)-25DEO-001T is a Washington obverse die with trails that struck 2005 California quarters at Philadelphia. In TrailDies' number the date and mint come first, then the state tag CA; 25-DEO marks a quarter obverse and 001T the first file with trails. The lines appear across almost all of the lettering (the legend, the motto and LIBERTY) and on the U of QUARTER, all running north-northwest at 340°. On the reverse paired with it, small gouges sit under the 1 and 8 of 1850 and under the last A of CALIFORNIA. Bill Taschwer of Ohio found the die. Trails are generally traced to polishing of the die with a rotary tool; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

- Stage "B" obverse is MDS – none noted.
- Reverse is MDS – small die gouge under the 1 and 8 of the 1850 date. Another small die gouge is seen under the last A of CALIFORNIA.
