Description
Found by Albert Niles Sr., this Trail Dies-cataloged Minnesota State Quarter from the Denver Mint holds the primary trail die reverse position for this date-mint. Light trail lines are seen from some of the tree tops on the reverse die. Die markers at Stage C: obverse at LDS with a die crack in the ribbon holding Washington's queue, terminating just above the second L of DOLLAR; reverse at LDS with a die crack from the Minnesota map's left edge to the rim. Trail die effects arise from partial contact between die faces during production. The Minnesota reverse features the state outline, lakes, and trees designed as part of the 50 State Quarters Program. Struck in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams and 24.26 mm, the 2005-D Minnesota Quarter was one of five state designs released that year. The LDS die cracks on both faces document advanced structural fatigue concurrent with the trail die observation.
