2004 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-006WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light wavy steps under columns 5 to 8 are TrailDies' whole description of 2004D-1DER-006WS, with the lines running at 180°, south. Wavy steps (the WS) are trails that cross the stairs of the Memorial and bend them. Its code combines 2004D (Denver date), the cent's 1, DER for a reverse design extension and file 006. Markers at the middle die state help separate it from similar 2004-D dies: a gouge in the field above the B of LIBERTY on the obverse and a chip high on column 1 on the reverse. Most specialists put trails down to rotary polishing of the die; a minority think the die moved against the hub.
