2004-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003
Error
Description
Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2004-D 1-cent WDDR-003 and extensively cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-011 and Coppercoins 2004D-1DR-015, this Lincoln Memorial Cent doubled die reverse displays doubling on the floor of the Memorial above the steps and on the top of both posts flanking the entrance. The Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc at 2.50 grams and 19.05 mm diameter, with Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait and Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse in its final years before the 2009 Bicentennial and 2010 Shield Cent transitions. Obverse die markers include die gouges north of the I and the R in LIBERTY. Reverse markers are extensive: die gouges below the U and inside the lower N in UNITED, a die gouge above the right Memorial base, die pitting below the right Memorial base, and a die gouge to the right of the upper T in CENT. The triple cross-referencing from Crawford, Coppercoins, and Wexler demonstrates broad recognition across major variety attribution sources. The Memorial floor and post doubling provides a relatively accessible area for examination, as these features sit in the central reverse design field.
