2004 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-004WS Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
Richard Cooper of Arizona both found and photographed 2004D-1DER-004WS. Its wavy steps are light, across the steps under columns 5 to 7, and they run at 180°, straight down the coin. Wavy steps are trails over the Memorial's staircase that leave the steps looking bent. The number gives the 2004 Denver date (2004D), the cent (1), a design extension on the reverse (DER), file 004 and the WS type. The middle-die-state obverse carries two small gouges, one on Lincoln's lapel and one on his vest; the reverse has a gouge between ONE and CENT, at the E and the C, and another between the A and M of AMERICA. Rotary polishing of the die is the common attribution for trails; a minority favour die-to-hub movement.
Die Markers
- Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – two small die gouges, one on the lapel, the other on the vest of Lincoln.
- Reverse is MDS – die gouge between the E of ONE and the C of CENT. Die gouge between the A and M of AMERICA.
