2004 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-003WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Moderate wavy steps under columns 5 through 8, heavier on the left, mark 2004D-1DER-003WS, another find by Mark Holmoe of Arizona. The term covers trails that cross the stairs of the Memorial so the treads look bent, and here they run at 180°, due south. The number reads 2004D, the Denver date; 1, cent; DER, a reverse design extension in TrailDies' terms; 003, the file; WS, wavy steps. On the middle-die-state coin, a small gouge sits in front of Lincoln's nose; the reverse has a small gouge below CENT's C on its left and the start of a chip in bay 1. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is the usual explanation; some attribute trails to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge in front of Lincoln’s nose.
• Reverse is MDS – small die gouge under the left side of the C in CENT. There is the beginning of a formation of a die chip in bay 1.
