2004 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2004D-1DEO-001T is a 2004 Denver Lincoln cent obverse with trails. The code pairs the date with Denver's D, then 1 (cent), DEO (TrailDies' obverse design extension), 001 (file number) and T (trails). Light trails, along with some deformation of the letters and digits, show on LIBERTY and the date, and small trail stubs, which TrailDies calls nubs, stand on the TR of TRUST. The offset is 060°, east-northeast, up and to the right. TrailDies says the lines are fairly easy to see though harder to photograph. At the middle die state, a series of gouges marks Lincoln's shoulder; the reverse has a crack and the start of a large chip high in the first bay, with cracks through the motto. Bob Piazza of Florida found the die. Rotary polishing of the die is the usual cause given; some attribute trails to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – A series of die gouges on the shoulder.
• Reverse is MDS – A die crack and the beginnings of a large chip in the upper first memorial bay.  Die cracks run through the letters of the motto.
