Description
Cal Goddard found 2003D-1DER-002T. Trails drop from the lower edges of the motto's letters and from TAT in STATES, running to 120°, east-southeast, down and to the right. Here 2003D is the year and Denver mint, the 1 stands for one cent, DER tells you the reverse carries the design extension, 002 is the file and T marks trails. On the obverse of the coin described, a small gouge lies above and between the L and I of LIBERTY and another sits in the mint mark; the reverse has nothing noted. The entry labels the pair stage B, with the obverse late and the reverse at a middle state. Trails are normally traced to rotary polishing of the die, though some trace them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B “, obverse is LDS – a small die gouge is seen above and in between the L and I of LIBERTY. Another small die gouge is seen in the mint mark.
- Reverse is MDS – none noted
