2002 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-006T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Jeremy Gardner found 2002D-1DER-006T, a Denver 2002 reverse with trails from the upper left corners of the motto's letters and from the left corners of the stylobate, pointing to 320°, northwest, up and to the left. TrailDies uses the 1 for the cent and DER for a reverse design extension; 006 is the file, and T says the die has trails. At the middle die state described, the obverse has a small gouge under the N of IN. The reverse has a die dot right of column 12 and a short, heavy scratch between the T and A of STATES. Trail lines are normally attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; a minority prefer movement of the die against the hub as the explanation.

Die Markers

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – A small die gouge is seen under the N of IN.
• Reverse is MDS – a die dot is seen to the right of column 12. A short, heavy die scratch is seen between the TA of STATES.
