2002D-1DER-005WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Moderate step deviation appears under columns 5, 6, 7, and 8 of the Lincoln Memorial at an offset of 180 degrees on this 2002 Denver Mint Memorial Cent. Found by Jeremy Gardner. Die markers at Stage B: obverse at MDS with a die gouge to the right of the E in WE; reverse at MDS with a small die gouge above the right side of the M in UNUM. The WS designation identifies a wide step variant where the step deviation is sufficiently broad to be distinguished from narrow step deviations. Struck in copper-plated zinc, weighing 2.5 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter. The 180-degree offset places trail lines directly southward, creating visible displacement in the architectural step detail beneath the central columns.

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen to the right of the E in WE.
• Reverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen just above the right side of the M in UNUM.
