2002D-1DER-004T Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
Found by Jean Lee, the 2002D-1DER-004T is a trail die reverse variety on the Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent. Trail die varieties preserve faint vestiges of a previous hub impression on the working die. At Stage C, both sides have advanced to late die state. No obverse markers were observed. The reverse displays a die gash to the right of the A in STATES and die damage inside the U in UNITED. These late-die-state reverse markers in the UNITED STATES legend provide two distinct diagnostic points along the upper reverse inscription, with the die gash near A and the damage inside U separated by enough distance to serve as independent confirmation features for attribution under magnification.
Die Markers
- Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none observed.
