2001 (P) North Carolina State Quarter - P(NC)-25DER-001T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2001P(NC)-25DER-001T carries trails in two opposite directions on the North Carolina quarter's reverse. Lines from the tops of the letters of UNUM point west-northwest at 300°, while those hanging from the bottom of FIRST point east-southeast at 120°. The code is the 2001 date with the P mint, the state tag NC, followed by 25 for a quarter dollar, DER for TrailDies' reverse extension category and 001T, which is file 001 of the trail kind. The middle-die-state coin TrailDies describes has a gouge above the left wing and damage below the A in CAROLINA; no obverse markers are given. Michael Pope found the die. Trails like these are usually traced to polishing of the die face with a rotary buff, and occasionally to the die moving against the hub.
