Description

Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the 2001 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse variety found on the North Carolina State Quarter, the twelfth release in the fifty-state commemorative quarter program that ran from 1999 through 2008. North Carolina's reverse design celebrates the Wright Brothers' historic first powered flight at Kitty Hawk on December 17, 1903, depicting their biplane in flight above the dunes. The obverse doubling on this variety resulted from a misalignment during the die hubbing process, producing visible duplication on design elements of the Washington portrait side.
