1999 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-022
ErrorDescription
Attributed by the Wexler Team as 1999 1¢ WDDR-022, this Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent shows doubling on the left side of the seventh column to the right of the statue's lower legs. Obverse die markers include a die gouge centered above the I and B in LIBERTY. The reverse carries a cluster of diagnostics: a die gouge touching the lower right side of the N in CENT, several small gouges to the right of the T in CENT, a gouge centered above the R and I in AMERICA that touches the rim, a gouge centered below the D in UNITED and the first S in STATES at the level of the bottom of E in EPU, and a gouge between the lower C and the second A in AMERICA. The column doubling is subtle and localized, making the die gouges essential for confirming the attribution. Late-date Memorial cent doubled dies from the 1990s exist in large numbers in the Wexler catalog, reflecting the enormous Philadelphia production volumes that generated many slightly misaligned hub impressions.
