1999 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-016

Description

Doubling on the right side of the sixth column, extending to the left of the statue's upper legs, plus additional doubling visible between the statue's upper legs characterizes this 1999 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR. Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse, with its columned facade and centered seated Lincoln statue, provides geometrically precise reference points where hub displacement creates measurable deviations from normal spacing. Obverse die markers: a small die gouge can be found SW of the one in the date. Reverse die markers include a short die gouge running NE on the roof north of the sixth Memorial column, along with die pitting below the right base of the Memorial. Cross-referenced under the Wexler system as 1999 1¢ WDDR-016, with no additional attributions known. The Wexler Team attributed this variety. Philadelphia's 1999 cent production exceeded 5.2 billion pieces, an enormous output that consumed hundreds of die pairs and generated opportunities for hub doubling across many working dies. Sixteen documented DDRs for this date reflects sustained collector interest in late Memorial Cent varieties.
