1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011

Description

Roll searching remains the primary method by which Lincoln Cent doubled die varieties enter the attribution pipeline, and WDDR-011 from the 1999 Philadelphia production is the kind of discovery that rewards patient examination. Collectors obtain bank-wrapped rolls of cents, systematically inspect each coin under a loupe or stereo microscope, and set aside any specimen showing secondary impressions on the reverse columns, lettering, or architectural details of the Memorial. When a promising find is identified, the coin is submitted to an attribution service such as the Wexler Team, where it is examined against the existing census and assigned a new WDDR number if it represents a previously undocumented die. The process is painstaking: a single roll of fifty cents might yield nothing, and a searcher might open hundreds of rolls before encountering a new variety. Yet the 1999 Philadelphia cent production was so vast that persistent searchers collectively assembled a DDR census exceeding two hundred entries. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1999 1¢ WDDR-011.
