1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1999 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The 6th column shows the doubling on its central right side, left of the statue's upper part. Obverse markers: a gouge (dot) close to the rim, centered over the I and N of IN; a gouge below and a little right of the right side of that N; a gouge touching the second T in TRUST on the right side of its upright; a gouge right of the middle of the R, oriented WSW/ENE; and two roughly horizontal gouges touching the left side of the B in LIBERTY, one about a quarter of the way up from the bottom and the other a little way down from the top. Reverse markers: a gouge between the L and U of PLURIBUS; gouges over the left side of the N and over the middle of the M in UNUM; a gouge over the left upright of the U in UNITED, butting against the rim; a small dot just right of the T's upright in CENT, about a fifth of the way down from the top; a gouge north of the N in ONE, halfway to the Memorial base; a horizontal gouge left of the first column, level with the middle of the U in UNITED; and slight feeder finger damage under the stairs, below the Memorial base on its right side. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. In the comments, Wexler says this listing replaces an earlier 'wavy steps' variety; those are no longer considered doubled dies.
