1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

1999 WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The 6th column shows the doubling on its central right side, left of the upper part of the statue. Wexler labels the obverse EDS (early die state). Its markers are small gouges (dots): one touching the right side of the B in LIBERTY a little below center, one under the N in IN, below the right side of its left upright, one SE of the first 9's lower tip, and two by the left side of the third 9, one just above it and one just below. On the reverse, a SW/NE scratch crosses the middle of the third Memorial bay. A long scratch heads SSE from the E in STATES, cutting through the first U in PLURIBUS on its right side and ending between the tops of the N and U in UNUM. A small dot lies just SW of the E in CENT, and small dots sit on both sides of the top of the twelfth column, just left and right of it. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler's comments explain that this is a replacement listing: the original was a 'wavy steps' variety, and such pieces are no longer thought to be doubled dies.
