1999 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-012
Error
Description
Twelfth in the extensive reverse doubled die census for the 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent, DDR-012 displays medium westward spread creating an extra column number 7 visible from the seated Lincoln figure's hand level down to the knee. VarietyVista assigned identifiers UVC-3104 and DMR-015, documenting three die stages: Stage A with both obverse and reverse at early die state, Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The EDS confirmation for Stage A indicates that specimens with fresh, unworn die surfaces have been verified for this variety. The phantom seventh column phenomenon on 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent reverses produced a remarkably deep census of DDR varieties, with DDR-012 being one of many dies that manifested the same general doubling effect — westward-displaced hub impressions creating ghost architectural elements in Frank Gasparro's memorial facade. Philadelphia's 1999 production of approximately 5.24 billion cents generated the die consumption necessary to produce this many independent doubled die events. The hand-to-knee range of the extra column on DDR-012 positions it between DDR-004 (face to knee) and DDR-008 (shin to pedestal) in terms of the vertical span affected, documenting a mid-section view of the phantom column. The RDV-007 reverse design variant notation connects DDR-012 to the same hub lineage as other 1999 DDRs carrying this designation, confirming they share a common reverse master die ancestry despite originating from independent working die doubling events. The DMR-015 number, notably higher than DDR-004's DMR-006, reflects the sequential documentation order within VarietyVista's die marriage registry for this date.
