Description

Distinguished from the companion 1999 DDR-010 by both its vertical diagnostic zone and its die state characteristics, the 1999 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-002 exhibits a medium westward spread creating a ghost column at position number 7 from the seated Lincoln statue's knee down to the pedestal. Where DDR-010 covers the broader hand-to-pedestal range on a different die, DDR-002 concentrates in the knee-to-pedestal zone on die UVC-2953/DMR-004. The die stage documentation reveals an important detail: Stage A records both reverse and obverse in early-to-mid die state (EMDS), an intermediate classification indicating the earliest documented specimens already show initial wear progression beyond fresh die condition. Stage B is tentatively mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C tentatively late die state (unconfirmed). Both 1999 column #7 DDRs share the RDV-007 reverse die variety designation and westward spread direction, but collectors differentiate them by vertical zone (knee-to-pedestal on DDR-002 vs. hand-to-pedestal on DDR-010), die marker numbers, and the EMDS classification unique to DDR-002. Cataloged by VarietyVista, this Philadelphia Mint regular strike was produced in copper-plated zinc. Examine column 7 from the statue's knee to the pedestal for the medium westward ghost column.
