Description

Documented as ADC-1c-1999-03 in the MadDieClashes catalog, this 1999 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent combines two distinct error characteristics: an off-center strike and dual clash events. The off-center striking, where the planchet was not fully centered between the dies, is unusual to find alongside die clash evidence on the same coin. The dual clash events occurred in a slightly staggered pattern, meaning the two clashings happened at marginally different die alignments, producing overlapping but not identical clash transfer marks. This coin is in the collection of Joe Koelling. The staggered dual clashes create a layered diagnostic where careful examination can distinguish two separate sets of incuse design transfers from two independent clash events. The combination of off-center striking with dual die clashing on a single coin represents an uncommon convergence of minting anomalies, as both conditions had to occur during the same die's production run. The reverse die shows only a very faint second clash event.
