1996 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-001T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light trails run from the tops of UNUM's letters on 1996D-1DER-001T at 330°, north-northwest, up and to the left. The D in 1996D is the Denver mint, the 1 makes it a cent, DER files it as a reverse design extension, and 001T is file 001 with trails. TrailDies records it at a late die state; the reverse has no markers noted, but the obverse shows a large cluster of small gouges in and around the date, which helps tell it from other 330° reverses of these years. TrailDies' entry names Bob Piazza of Florida as the finder. Trails are mostly thought to come from polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some think the die moved against the hub.
