1996 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1996D-1DEO-001T is TrailDies' file 001 for 1996 Denver cent obverses with trails. The code puts the year and mint first (1996D), then 1 for the cent, DEO for an obverse design extension, file 001, and a final T meaning trails. The lines come from the D mint mark itself and from the lower left corners of both 9s in the date, heading at 260°, slightly south of due west. No obverse markers are noted at the late die state described; on the reverse there are flow lines above and through FG, a small gouge in the O of ONE and a break at the top right of the N in ONE. Bill Slaughter found it. Trails are commonly attributed to rotary polishing of the die, with some attributing them to the die moving against the hub.

• Reverse is LDS – metal flow lines are seen above and through the FG. A small die gouge is in the O of ONE. A die break is seen on the upper right corner of the N in ONE.
